Birds
Birds have always been an intricate part of the Indian culture. The cultural significance of birds is complemented by their ecological importance. Birds play vital roles in the ecosystems through their actions as pollinators, seed dispersers, predators, scavengers, and as prey for other species.
India is one of the most bird diverse countries on Earth, thanks to the variety of ecosystems ranging from the high Himalaya to deserts to evergreen jungle and mangroves. About 1,300-odd species of birds are reported from the subcontinent, constituting about 13% of the world’s birds.
