Bears

The shaggy-coated sloth bear is native to the Indian subcontinent. Being the most common among the four species of bears in India, it is widely distributed from the foothills of the Himalayas to the southern tip of the peninsula as well as Sri Lanka.

It feeds on fruits, ants and termites. Sloth bears live in a variety of dry and moist forests and in some tall grasslands, where boulders, scattered shrubs and trees provide shelter. Unlike other bear species, they routinely carry their cubs on their backs.
